A Weeks Worth Of Meals - Zaitoun Palestinian Cookbook Edition - 07
A meal plan for people who don't do meal plans (from a dietitian who doesn't give out meal plans)
Foodbaby is a weekly fertility lifestyle newsletter packed with recipes, meal inspo, and easy-to-digest nutrition science by dietitian Ami.
If you’re new here (welcome!) you can read all about why meal plans don’t work and all my caveats to sharing these, in this post.
TLDR: I’m sharing these because it’s bloody hard to work out what to have for dinner every night, let alone know if it’s supporting your fertility. I’m NOT saying this is exactly what you should eat, I’m saying, this is what I’m eating this week if you want some fertility-friendly ideas. Take what you need.
I share any adjustments I make to the recipes to make them more fertility-friendly, there’s usually one easy, ‘throw-together’ meal and one ‘make ahead’ meal, that you can meal prep in advance (and make a spare to pop in the freezer, while you’re at it too.)
If there is a type of recipe you’d love to see more of, let me know in the comments.
Today’s is a cookbook edition: Did you know that if you have a library card you can get e-books for free on your phone/tablet?! I’m all for buying physical cookbooks to support the authors (and tbh also because they’re beautiful and I love them), but this is a great way to try before you buy.
As I talked about in this newsletter a few weeks ago, like many people, I’m horrified by what has been happening in Palestine.
As the Israeli army does all it can to destroy Palestine, Palestinians and Palestinian culture, I’m determined to learn more about it. So today’s meals are all from Zaitoun, Recipes and Stories from the Palestinian Kitchen by Yasmin Khan.
I think it’s important to note that this book isn’t by a Palestinian author, it’s just the only Palestinian cookbook I currently own (I bought it when it came out a few years ago). Yasmin is a human rights campaigner, has been vocal about Palestinian rights and shares many Palestinian stories in the beautiful book.
But I’ve also found other cookbooks by Palestinian authors (and I’ve ordered a couple of these, so I will do some future Meals posts from them too) so you can buy them and learn more about their delicious —and often v fertility-friendly— food!
