Fertility Meals: A Weeks Worth Of Meals 01
A meal plan for people who don't do meal plans (from a dietitian who doesn't give out meal plans)
Foodbaby is a weekly fertility lifestyle newsletter packed with recipes, meal inspo, and easy-to-digest nutrition science by dietitian Ami.
As well as sharing fertility recipes (like this chickpea stew) I want to show you some of my weekly meal plans.
Now before we get into it, a HUGE caveat: In general, meal plans don’t really work.
Sticking to a set meal plan, even one personally prescribed for you, (which these are not!) doesn’t usually work.
Why? 1) They don’t teach you how to make long-term changes 2) they tend to be strict and totally unrealistic 3) life gets in the way of following them and then you feel like shit because you “failed” your meal plan. They’re too prescriptive and often foster unhealthy relationships with food.
So why am I sharing these?
Because it’s bloody hard to work out what to have for dinner every night.
I am a dietitian who loves food, it’s literally my job to talk about food all day, including creating recipes - which I love! - but every Friday, when I sit down to do the meals for the following week, I struggle!
And it’s so much work to put these together that it seems like a waste not to share them with you.
So these are for inspiration purposes only.
I’m NOT saying this is exactly what you should eat, I’m saying, this is what I’m eating if you want some fertility-friendly ideas. Take what you need.
They will be mostly pescatarian, with the occasional meat or poultry because that’s how we eat and what the fertility science supports. Expect lots of veggies, plant-based proteins, oily fish, fibre-filled deliciousness.
I’ll share links to recipes as well as the adjustments I make to them to make them more fertility-friendly.
There will usually be at least one easy, ‘throw-together’ meal and one ‘make ahead’ meal, that you can meal prep in advance (and make a spare to pop in the freezer, while you’re at it.)
It’ll be mostly recipes you can find online but I’ll do some weeks using my favourite cookbooks too. And yes, there are only 6 meals here, we get takeaway on Sundays.
If there is a type of recipe you’d love to see more of, let me know in the comments.
